About

Conceived from the idea that "Nothing ever happens in Queensland", No Years ambitions to create the ultimate New Years Eve celebration through a partnership with all art forms in an atmosphere which is designed to fuel new experiences. Featuring a showcase of quality national and international music acts, food culture, pop up and guerrilla art exhibitions. We are converging all artistic mediums to design a celebration of the year that has been, and what is to come. More than the average New Years Eve celebration, No Years is an event, in an environment to be remembered, inspiring and motivating creativity in the community for the new year.

In last years inaugural year, No Years was housed within the once derelict Brisbane Powerhouse, resulting in a sold out crowd of 1500. The celebration featured 22 international and national cult acts such as, Shout Out Louds (SWE), Neon Indian(US), The John Steel Singers, Jonathan Boulet, Seekae, Parades, Oh Ye Denver Birds, Bleeding Knees Club and many more. The concept was formed around providing a forum for good food and music by utilising the venue as well as live art and music to create the ultimate New Years Eve celebration. Fundamentally what we wanted was an exclusive in size, end of year celebration which resulted in all the attendees being exactly who our sponsors target. It was the event that the forerunners in the creative industries were talking about long after the actual date.

This year The Powerhouse will again play host to No Years. Situated by the Brisbane River The Powerhouse was originally used to supply electricity to various suburbs over Brisbane as well as fuelling the tram network. Today The Powerhouse has become a prolific landmark of Brisbane. After its decommission in 1971 The Powerhouse sat derelict on the banks of the Brisbane River for 20 years. During that time it functioned as a squat for Brisbane's homeless population and played host to the parties and raves of street kids during the nineties. The vacant space place acted as a blank canvas for graffiti artists such as French stencil artist, Blek le Rat, forging the way for The Powerhouse to become a cultural and trendsetting hub of Brisbane. Today, after its renovation The Powerhouse is a playground for everything creative, including theatre, music, comedy, film, visual arts, festivals and ideas. Renowned for hosting The Brisbane Comedy Festival, The Queer Film Festival, The World Theatre Festival as well as the annual Nikon Walkley Press Photo Awards. However, The Powerhouse is still very much a skeleton of industrial architecture, and it is this empty vessel that allows us to completely build a unique environment which reflects our concepts. Through No Years, we endeavour to take The Powerhouse back to its past and give the present generation of creatives a taste of its grunge past.
